The Third Training Event

SEA-EU Alliance doctoral students participated in the training called “Problem-solving skills for higher education learners” where they offered solutions to concrete problems that companies in Split and Dalmatia encounter in the field of the blue economy. It was a training hosted by the University of Split, from May 23 to 27. It took place within Erasmus+ project SEA-EU DOC, with the participation of 40 doctoral students and 5 mentors from five higher education institutions that make up the SEA-EU Alliance “European University of the Sea”, universities of Brest, Cadiz, Kiel, Gdansk and Split.

University of Split’s Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, prof. Leandra Vranješ Markić Ph.D. welcomed all participants, pointing out that such gatherings are extremely important as they provide a new perspective and insight into solving problems outside our usual surroundings.

During this week, doctoral students were introduced to an innovative method of problem-solving and are finding solutions to our companies’ real problems, in an interdisciplinary environment. In this way, they also gain confidence in overcoming situations they do not encounter often – Vice-Rector Vranješ Markić said.

SEA-EU DOC is a project created within SEA-EU Alliance that began in September 2020 and will last for three years. It is aimed at increasing employment opportunities for doctoral students in the field of marine science through raising awareness of the diversity of PhD careers; development of “soft skills”, in high demand in the labour market, and connecting the academic community with economy developing the European network of doctoral students.
