Building the Blue Doctoral Community of Tomorrow
On the 6 December 2021, various University of Malta staff members met to share thoughts on effective and beneficial elements of an alumni network.
In alliance with the Universities of Western Brittany (France), Gdansk (Poland), Cadiz (Spain), Kiel (Germany) and Split (Croatia), the University of Malta is participating in the European Universities of the Seas (SEA-EU) project to establish a distinctly international, pluri-ethnic, multilingual, and interdisciplinary European University. This initiative strives to encourage excellence in research by gaining more knowledge of the marine environment and a better understanding of its management.
By giving visibility to the diversity of career paths for doctorate holders, the purpose of Erasmus+ SEA-EU DOC project (a spin-off activity of SEA-EU) is to broaden employment opportunities of doctorate holders by identifying skills that students can transfer to any work context. One of the project deliverables is to create a European network for doctoral alumni in marine sciences to strengthen links with the private sector.
On the 6 December 2021, various University of Malta staff members met to share thoughts on effective and beneficial elements of an alumni network. The primary goal of this event was to explore how to build a blue doctoral online platform that enables collaborations among alumni and industry in the blue economy. This focus group was organised by Dr Adam Gauci and moderated by Dr Anthony Galea. During the activity, participants shared their views on what they would expect from a digital community.
