The European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) is developed to the establishment of the Centre for service learning. Service learning is a form of innovative pedagogy that combines the learning goals of university courses and local community service, in order to enhance student personal and professional growth, as well as common good.

It meaningfully integrates community service with the learning objectives of the courses in order to enrich the learning experience, to promote the higher quality of the courses, to teach students civic responsibility, seeking to achieve real objectives for the community and deeper understanding and wider skills for students. It promotes practical and work-based experience as well as work with external mentors, in order to achieve diversity in knowledge and skills developed, fostering achievement of higher number of learning outcomes. As the students are the main focus of service learning, it promotes the role of youth and education as driving forces for European competitiveness.
